Undergraduate Mentorship Programme 2024-25 Mentees Sharing

Since the programme’s kick-off in October 2024, our mentors and mentees have participated in the Kick-off Ceremony, Alumni Mentor Sharing sessions, Mid-year Get-together, and various group activities and meetings. To gain deeper insights into the growth journeys of our mentees, three mentees from different majors have shared their unique experiences and learnings from their perspectives.
Caroline Lee (GLEF, Year 3)

My mentorship experience has been both insightful and rewarding. Thanks to my mentor, Mr Peter Yeung who brought us to the Happy Valley Barrier Trials and Breakfast at HKJC Happy Valley Racecourse, our group had a nice chat on that day. I gained valuable knowledge about the current market situation and future career path planning. One of the most significant lessons I learned was the importance of connections and being proactive in seeking opportunities. Additionally, I learned more about interview assessments, giving me a clearer understanding of what to expect. My mentor has helped refine my career direction, offering insider insights into various companies. Moving forward, I aim to apply the soft skills I have developed and leverage this experience to navigate future opportunities with confidence. We have also planned the next meeting, which I look forward to continuing this enriching journey.

Hayden Yu (PACC, Year 4)

This year’s mentorship programme has been an eye-opening and rewarding journey. Through meaningful interactions, including a dinner with my mentor, Mr Francis Nip, I gained valuable insights into how students can enhance their employability. Learning from my mentor, a company leader, offered a fresh perspective on various industries beyond accounting. One important lesson I’ve learned is that university offers a golden opportunity to build a network, which will be invaluable in the future. Although my mentor’s field differs from my career aspirations in banking, his advice on university life profoundly influenced me, especially on the importance of enjoying the experience and forming lasting friendships. This mentorship helped shape my understanding of career aspirations. Moving forward, I plan to apply the networking and social skills gained to expand my professional connections. The programme has been incredibly enjoyable, and I will definitely join again next year.

Helen Wahyudi (IBBA, Year 1)

During this year’s mentorship programme, I gained valuable insights into the marketing industry. My mentor, Mr Birch Fung, provided us with valuable feedback and career guidance. I learned that marketing is a passion and we have to start from the ground up to reach the top. We also have to be fast learners and willing to adapt in order to succeed in this fast-moving industry. Additionally, being paired with senior students allowed me to learn a lot from them and gained a head start on the challenges that a senior year student may encounter. Over these few months, I realised the importance of learning and socialising more in order to build connections. I felt so grateful meeting the three of them. Each of their stories gave me a lot of insights and inspiration. I am thankful for this enriching experience and look forward to applying these lessons in my future career.
