CUHK Business Student Teams Crowned Top Winners at HKICPA Business Case Competition 2019

Two CUHK student teams brought home the Champion and first runner-up awards in the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) Business Case Competition 2019, held on 1 December 2019. With a forward-thinking mindset and innovative solutions, the teams were able to impress the judges and seize the top prizes. Both winning teams received cash prizes, QP fees waiver, and internship opportunities in recognition of their accomplishments.

The Champion team, comprising Wong Ching Kei Poey (Quantitative Finance and Risk Management, year 2), Lam Sze Wing and Luk Hei (both Global Business Studies, year 2), and Wangchuk Sonam Chophel (Integrated BBA, year 4), also won the Best Performance Team award with Sonam Chophel named Best Presenter in the competition.

The champion team celebrated their achievements with Mr. Raymond Wong (programme co-director of Global Business Studies) (first one from the left) and Mr. Marco Yau (from the Undergraduate Office, CUHK Business School) (first one from the right). The champions, Lam Sze Wing (second one from the left) Wong Ching Kei Poey (third one from the left), Luk Hei (third one from the right), and Wangchuk Sonam Chophel (second one from the right).

Li Ho Ling (Quantitative Finance, year 4), Wong Nam Kit (Professional Accountancy, GA Stream, year 3), Kong Chan Yat Lawrence (Economics, year 5), and Liou King Long (Financial Technology, year 3), also performed exceptionally well as a team to win the first runner-up award.

The winning team members, Liou King Long (fourth one from the left), Kong Chan Yat Lawrence (fifth one from the left), Li Ho Ling (sixth from the left), and Wong Nam Kit (fourth from the right).

The annual case competition, formerly known as QP Case Analysis Competition, aims to enhance students’ knowledge and analytical skills by solving real-life business challenges. This year, teams were required to identify the financial risk of Platin Hotels Limited and recommend strategies to substantiate profitability, growth and ethical issues.
