Inauguration For Undergraduates 2022
and Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Induction

On 29 August 2022, over 700 newly admitted undergraduates of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School officially started a new chapter of life at the Inauguration Ceremony For Undergraduates 2022, in the presence of Prof. Lin ZHOU, Dean of CUHK Business School, Dr. John LAI, Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) and other faculty members of CUHK Business School.

To commemorate the entry of the new cohort of CUHK Business School undergraduate students and celebrate the return of normal campus life in a fresh academic year, the Inauguration Ceremony was held in Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK on 29 August 2022. Remarkably, parents were also invited to witness their son’s and daughter’s prideful moments of becoming a CUHK Business School student in the auditorium.

The inauguration began with Dean ZHOU’s motivational remarks. Dean ZHOU welcomed the CUHK Business School undergraduate class of 2022 and shared the fascinating journey that will commence in the Business School. He highlighted that students will be nurtured as all-rounded business leaders of the next generation, equipped with a social vision and innovative ideas. He also emphasised that the cultural diversity and large alumni network of the Business School celebrate individuality, embrace inclusion, foster global perspectives and create a supportive environment.

Prof. Lin ZHOU, Dean of CUHK Business School, gave an opening speech to the Business School undergraduate class of 2022.

During the ceremony, Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Award 2022 was announced. This year, Mr. Leong CHEUNG (BBA 1994), Former Executive Director of Charities and Community at The Hong Kong Jockey Club, was nominated to be the Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree. Mr. CHEUNG took this valuable opportunity to share his own experiences with our new cohort of undergraduates. In his motivating speech, he shared three key points with our students – stay curious, be resilient, and serve others. He encouraged students to try to seek out various opportunities provided by the CUHK Business School, to strive through different difficult situations in our journey to success, and to be an ethical, responsible businessman who builds businesses to be part of the solution instead of being the problem ourselves in the name of profit. He hoped students to take their first step to run, transform themselves and the world for the better.

Students from different programmes were awarded badges from their programme directors or faculty members on stage.

In a closing remark, Dr. John Lai encouraged freshmen to dream big about their future aspirations, never give up and work hard even after failure, enjoy making friends with people from diverse backgrounds. He wished students the best of luck with their life-changing four years in university.

John LAI, Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) delivered a closing address for the event.

It was an extraordinary feat when our Business School students staged a music performance with CUHK Music Department during the inauguration ceremony. Harmonicist Bosco LUK, Lala LO and Daisy HUANG performed the song “You Raise Me Up” to express their gratitude to the CUHK Business School and freshmen’s gratefulness to their parents who raised them. It also highlighted that students of the Business School were highly multi-talented, aside from academics. Their splendid musical performance created an exceptional moment for freshmen who just started their new chapter of life.

As the new academic year begins, CUHK Business School is more than excited to welcome all the new and current students to be on campus again. The world is constantly changing, there will still be a lot of uncertainties and obstacles in the future. However, the school is well-prepared to tackle every single challenge with its members.
