A team of four undergraduate students, Ivan Cheung (GBS, Year 3), Anson Kee (GBS, Year 3), Bowie Mock (GBS, Year 2) and Sally Ng (GBS, Year 2), recently took part in the Corvinus Undergraduate Business Experience (CUBE) 2024 in Budapest, Hungary and brought back two championship titles after multiple rounds of presentations.

Hosted by Corvinus University of Budapest and in collaboration with Corvinus Case Track Community, the prestigious week-long event served as a valuable platform for high-calibre students from 16 top business institutions from around the world to connect and exchange knowledge. The competition comprised a total of three cases and focused on businesses in Hungary and the European region, providing all participants with an opportunity to expand their horizons beyond their home countries.

Although the team faced a few uncertainties and challenges when they initially encountered a case in the Trust and Safety industry, their dedicated efforts and solutions successfully impressed the panel of judges and led them to win the titles in both the 2-week and 7-hour case presentations.

The team enjoyed the stunning view of Budapest from Fisherman’s Bastion.

Aside from the competition, the team was also grateful to have formed lifelong friendships with other overseas competitors and had the opportunity to explore Budapest for its remarkable architecture and flavourful cuisine. Let’s hear the sharing from our champion team below:-

Ivan Cheung (GBS, Year 3):

“I am still mesmerized by the moment when all competitors paid their attention to our presentation on the final stage. This substantially bolstered my confidence and ability to make impromptu responses to judges’ questions. Besides, this experience has taught me that cracking cases is not about throwing out creative solutions. Instead, it’s about learning the company’s capabilities and situation and customizing a solution for them. Finally, on top of all the competitive elements, I have built genuine friendships along the journey, and I feel grateful to witness each other’s growth over a short time.”

Anson Kee (GBS, Year 3):

“I can still vividly recall the two moments where our team was announced to be the Champions for the 2-week case and the 7-hour case. I was so grateful that all our devotion for the competition has paid off, not only for the awards, but also turning them into actual learnings in case-solving and some industries that we have never heard of before, such as the Trust & Safety industry. Beyond competition, I have formed genuine friendships with peers from various universities. We supported and encouraged one another throughout the competitions, and these memories will definitely leave a lasting mark in my heart.”

Bowie Mock (GBS, Year 2):

“CUBE has significantly contributed to my growth in two areas. The unique aspect of case solving set CUBE apart from other competitions. It presented intense and challenging cases, each with distinct backgrounds and themes. CUBE expanded my global perspective and deepened my understanding of the European demographic. Additionally, the exceptional networking opportunities allowed me to connect with talented minds from diverse nationalities and learn from their case-solving approaches. Overall, CUBE was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I am truly honoured to have taken part in this event.”

Sally Ng (GBS, Year 2):

“The challenging cases during CUBE have been intellectually stimulating and exciting to work on, and I truly felt that I’ve improved greatly in my presentation confidence and flow after this competition. It was also an amazing opportunity to form genuine and wholesome friendships with students around the world. The supportive and encouraging environment even among competitors was very precious to me and elevated my overall experience in CUBE.”
