Inauguration Ceremony for Undergraduates 2024 and Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Induction

On 25 August 2024, we warmly welcomed over 700 newly admitted undergraduates to the CUHK Business School family at our Inauguration Ceremony, marking the start of an exciting journey ahead.
We were honoured to have Mr. Albert Kong Ping NG, Retired Chairman of EY China and this year’s Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree, join us as our guest of honour. We were also thrilled to have Prof. Lin ZHOU, Dean of CUHK Business School, Dr. Fred KU, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), other faculty members, and guests grace the occasion with their presence. Remarkably, over 300 parents attended to witness their sons’ and daughters’ pride moments as they officially became CUHK Business School students.
The inauguration began with Dean ZHOU’s motivational remarks. He emphasised the School’s commitment to nurturing future business leaders. “At CUHK Business School, we empower you to unlock your full potential and unveil a world of future opportunities for you,” he affirmed. “Embrace every opportunity, make meaningful connections, and most importantly, enjoy this transformative journey ahead.” He encouraged students to step beyond their comfort zones and engage with the rapidly changing business landscape.
During the ceremony, Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Award 2024 was announced. This year, Mr. Albert NG (BBA – Accounting 1981), Retired Chairman of EY China, was nominated to be the Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree. Mr. NG took this valuable opportunity to share his own experiences with our new cohort of undergraduates, “University life is exciting, challenging, and transformative. Embrace change and adopt a mindset of lifelong learning. These are key to navigating not just your education, but your future careers as well.”
Another highlight of the day was the badge presentation ceremony, where Mr. NG, together with our undergraduate programme directors, bestowed badges upon our freshmen. These badges symbolise not just a new journey, but the responsibility, professionalism, and commitment our students are embracing as they step into the business world.
In a closing remark, Dr. Fred KU reminded students that business education is not solely about generating revenue. It is also about understanding the broader impact you can have on society. He remarked, “I urge you to consider your social responsibilities as future leaders. Use the knowledge and skills you acquire here to contribute positively to the communities around you.”
The ceremony ended on a high note with a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace” by our talented students from the CUHK Business School and the CUHK Music Department, leaving us all inspired and eager for the adventures that lie ahead.

Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the support from the Faculty, Alumni Affairs and Development Office, undergraduate programme directors, our student emcees Justin CHOI (IBBA/3) and Lauren HO (IBBA/2), and all student helpers who made the event successful.
