The Undergraduate Mentorship Programme 2020-21

The Undergraduate Mentorship Programme 2020-21 was successfully kicked off virtually on 24 October 2020. The programme is co-organised by CUHK BBA Alumni Association and CUHK Business School Undergraduate Office. 88 alumni mentors from diverse backgrounds and 154 business students have joined the programme this year.

At the kick-off gathering, Prof. Lin Zhou, Dean of CUHK Business School expressed his deep gratitude to the alumni mentors for their supports to the student mentees. He also encouraged mentors and mentees to cherish the opportunity to learn and acquire new perspectives from each other. “Mentoring is beyond just a one-on-one coaching but more like a mutual knowledge exchange process,” he remarked.

After Dean’s sharing, two alumni ─ Mr. Tony Chau (IBBA/2001), SVP & Asia Lead of Global Product Management at Wells Fargo Bank and Ms. Seraph Chi (PACC/2020), Analyst at JP Morgan Chase & Co., joined the panel discussion, which was moderated by Prof. Andy Wong, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies). Tony, Seraph and Tony’s mentee Samson Huang (PACC/Year 4) shared tips on how they maintain a fruitful mentoring relationship and stay positive during difficult times.

This year, LI Wing Yan (GBS/Year 2), and WU Jiayi (QFRM/Year 3) were awarded the CUHK BBA Alumni Association Scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement and outstanding performance. The awards were presented by Mr. Raymond Lo (BBA/1983, MSc in Global Business/2003), Chairman of CUHK BBA Alumni Association during the kick-off gathering.

Apart from Dean’s speech and the panel discussion. Ms. Angela Fung (QFIN/2009), the Vice Chairman (Membership) of CUHK BBA Alumni Association also shared her words of encouragement to all mentors and mentees. She encouraged them to continue to build connection and keep their drive to make the year as rewarding as it can be. “Commitment and drive are what make things happen, and this is something that won’t change even as disruptive as the current situation is,” she shared.

The Mentorship Programme has become a key part of the undergraduate business curriculum since its first launch in year 2008. It provides coaching to help students with their personal and career development. Besides, students can understand the current business world with guidance from their mentors. Mentors and mentees are matched based on the mentor’s preference and their expertise, as well as mentees’ career interests.
