Inauguration For Undergraduates 2023
and Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Induction

To commemorate the entry of the new cohort of CUHK Business School undergraduate students, the Inauguration Ceremony for Undergraduates 2023 was successfully held in Cheng Yu Tung Building, CUHK on 4th September 2023. With the presence of Ms. Cindy Chow, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, Prof. Lin Zhou, Dean of CUHK Business School, Dr. Fred Ku, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), and other faculty members of CUHK Business School, around 800 newly admitted undergraduates officially embarked on their university journey.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring speech by Dean Zhou, who warmly welcomed the CUHK Business School Undergraduates class of 2023 and encouraged them to embrace the world-class education offered by CUHK Business School. He also advised them to establish significant and enduring connections with their fellow students, faculty members, and mentors. As he concluded his speech, he expressed his heartfelt wishes for the students’ university life to be transformative, inspiring, and filled with cherished memories that would endure throughout their lifetime.

Another highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree Award 2023. This prestigious award recognises and appreciates individuals who have achieved significant accomplishments in business administration and have advanced the ideals of society through their exemplary work. This year, we were immensely proud to announce that Ms. Cindy Chow, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, was nominated as the Beta Gamma Sigma CUHK Chapter Honoree. Notably, Ms. Cindy Chow is a CUHK BBA Alumna who has wholeheartedly embraced the spirit of giving back to the community by leading the fund in investing in Hong Kong-based start-ups and inspiring young individuals to pursue their passions and entrepreneurial visions. Following Dean Zhou’s words of congratulations and the presentation of the award to Ms. Cindy Chow, she graciously shared her transformative journey from being a student at CUHK Business School to her current position with the freshmen.

During the ceremony, student representatives were presented with CUHK Business School Badges on stage by Ms. Cindy Chow, Dr. Fred Ku, programme directors and faculty members. In particular, every freshman who attended the ceremony was delighted to receive the badge signifying the responsibility, professionalism, and commitment that students have embarked upon.

Moving along, Dr. Fred Ku, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of CUHK Business School, concluded the ceremony with a closing address. He expressed his hope to use the acronym “RISE,” which stands for ‘Resources,’ ‘Innovation,’ ‘Society,’ and ‘Entrepreneurship,’ to guide the undergraduates at the beginning of their university journey. Dr. Ku emphasized the importance of developing both personal and social values in students. He encouraged them to embrace the benefits and resources available at CUHK Business School, urging them to explore new possibilities and strive for excellence. Lastly, he highlighted Ms. Cindy Chow’s dedication to society, which serves as an inspiration for students to overcome challenges and actively contribute to driving positive change.

Dr. Fred Ku, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of CUHK Business School, delivered a closing address to conclude the ceremony.

A tea reception had been prepared following the inauguration ceremony. In addition to serving delightful refreshments, student ambassadors gathered to share their personal experiences of university life. The student ambassadors engaged with freshmen, addressing their expectations and listening to practical concerns, thereby bolstering their confidence from the very beginning.
