Two teams of CUHK Business School students were crowned champions and first runner-up winners at the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2020-21 on 23 January 2021. In addition to the outstanding achievements, the CUHK teams also earned the Creative Excellent, Best Proposal, and My Favourite Video awards in the competition.
Themed “Rewiring our future: leading digital innovation and sustainable success”, the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition challenged students to bring in new ideas of survival and transformation to decipher the next business normal.
Students were tasked to take on an executive management team’s role to lead a business transformation with a positive impact on wider communities and sustainable growth. Teams had to develop a visionary business model that echoed the social mission, and a budgeting plan to optimise the financial return and sustainability from three available categories: Family & Community, Media & Entertainment, and Teaching & Learning.
Amongst thousands of entry in the preliminarily round, the CUHK were amongst the top 20 teams shortlisted to proceed further. Teams then attended a series of professional skills workshops, coached by seasoned ACCA-qualified industry professionals.
Both teams impressed the panel of judges with their creative approach, forward-thinking strategies, and dynamic presentations. Team Infinity tackled a case on the EF Education First – their business idea centred on developing an education portal that promotes educational equality and cross-culture learning. Whereas Team Quad 7 focused on enhancing opportunities and exposure for young and new artists using mobile technologies with AR and streaming capabilities.
Facing intense pressure and fierce competition from six other finalist teams, the CUHK teams were eventually crowned champions and first runner-up winner at the prestigious annual competition.
