CUHK Business School Students Triumphs at Three International Case Competitions

February 2026 marked an extraordinary chapter in CUHK Case Competition Team (CCT) history. In a single month, our students competed in three countries across two continents, taking on internationally renowned case competitions, and sweeping top honours from every competition they entered.
The Victories
  • 2nd Runner-Up at the McDonough Business Strategy Challenge (MBSC) 2026 in the United States
  • 1st Runner-Up at the CaseIT MIS Case Competition (CaseIT) 2026 in Canada
  • 1st Runner-Up at the IE Business Case Competition (IEBCC) 2026 in Spain

Across the three competitions, our students competed against elite institutions, applying rigorous business thinking to tackle complex, real-world challenges. Pushing beyond their limits, they honed their leadership and collaboration skills while triumphing alongside the world’s best, and returned with the impressive results.

Highlights of the Competitions
McDonough Business Strategy Challenge (MBSC) 2026 – Washington, D.C., US

Our victories began in the week of 1–7 February 2026, when Jessica Cheuk (IBBA, Year 3), Matthias Chong (IBCE, Year 3), Lauren Ho (IBBA, Year 3), and Shing-him Lee (QFRM, Year 3) flew to Washington, D.C., to compete in the McDonough Business Strategy Challenge 2026, organised by Georgetown University. The event brought together 60 elite students from top international universities and challenged them with a real-world case for the DC Preservation League.

CaseIT MIS Case Competition (CaseIT) 2026 – Vancouver, Canada

Meanwhile, another team of four – Ryan Chi (GBS, Year 3), Panitsiree Choochua (IBBA, Year 3), Jasmine Wong (BBAJD, Year 2), and James Li (IFAA, Year 2) – spent their Chinese New Year holiday from 15 – 21 February 2026 in Vancouver, Canada, competing in the CaseIT MIS Case Competition 2026. Hosted by the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, CaseIT is a prestigious international competition that challenges participants to apply not only their business skills but also their expertise in Management Information Systems (MIS).

The week-long event featured two case-solving challenges: a 6-hour case tackling the dilemma faced by Pragilis in turning its Transformation Engine methodology into a digital platform, quickly followed by a 24-hour case to enhance the financial information systems efficiency for the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
Although the competition was highly competitive, the team persevered and achieved 1st runner-up out of 16 elite schools worldwide.

The event comprised two case-solving tasks: a 5-hour case on the strategic challenges faced by Alma Carraovejas in scaling sustainably while balancing growth, profitability, and brand prestige in the global wine industry, immediately followed by a 12-hour case tasking students with stepping into Amazon’s leadership to balance long-term growth with operational efficiency, customer obsession, and sustainability amid mounting competitive pressures.
Despite the fierce competition, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience and earned 1st runner-up among 12 top-tier Business Schools from around the world.
While the accolades are impressive, the true value extends far beyond the awards. It is about the problem-solving skills sharpened under pressure, the cross-cultural competence gained through engaging with peers and mentors from around the world, and the lifelong connections forged along the journey.

We extend our sincere thanks to our talented students for their tremendous dedication and achievements, to our advisors, Dr Fred Ku, Ms Rose Chan and Ms Esther Tam for their invaluable guidance and support, and to the CUHK Case Competition Team (CCT) and alumni for the training and commitment.  We are also deeply grateful to Georgetown University, the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University and IE University for their gracious invitations and warm hospitality. Finally, we thank all the competing teams for their sportsmanship, enriching exchanges, and friendship, which made the experience truly memorable.

Looking forward, the school remains committed to empowering our students to shine on global stages and continue their journey of growth and excellence.
